A teenage soldier rescued by US commandos who raided an Iraqi hospital, has been flown to Germany for treatment to her injuries. Private Jessica Lynch, 19, is believed to have broken legs, a broken arm and at least one gunshot wound.

Heather Miller, spokeswoman for the 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein Air Base, says Lynch is on her way to Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in south-western Germany.

An Iraqi pharmacist who works at Saddam Hospital says he treated Jessica for leg injuries, but that she was she was otherwise healthy.

The pharmacist, who gave his name only as Imad, told Sky she knew the US troops were on the other side of the Euphrates River and "she kept wondering if the American Army were coming to save her."

The rescue operation included Air Force pilots, Marines, Navy SEALS, and Army Rangers.

Lynch, an army supply clerk, was captured by the Iraqis more than a week ago after her maintenance unit made a wrong turn and was ambushed in the southern city of Nasiriyah.
