Scottish troops set for Afghanistan mission The reinforced platoon from the British Army's 51st Highland Regiment (Volunteers) will carry out a three-month stint. More than 52 troops fly out to Kabul as part of Operation Fingal following the defeat of the Taliban government. Soldiers were pictured undergoing final live-firing training near Carnoustie, in Angus, over the weekend. Once there, they will act as the main guard for military installations in Kabul and at Bagram airbase, and for Royal Engineers who will be carrying out vital rebuilding work. Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Andrew McNaughton, said: "It is a great honour for the regiment, and I am extremely confident they will be up to the challenge." |
