Portsmouth warship HMS St Albans, damaged by a cross-Channel ferry during stormy weather, is back at sea today after a three-month repair programme. The Type-23 frigate was struck by the P&O ferry Pride of Portsmouth in 70mph winds while alongside in Portsmouth Naval Base in October.
She suffered damage to her port side upper deck, including the bridge wing, gun platform and boat deck.
Fleet Support Limited in the naval base have carried out repairs and St Albans is now ready to be put through her paces.
She will leave this morning and spend three days in UK waters on a short work-up programme.
Lieutenant Commander Ian MacGillivray, one of the senior officers on board, said: "We will shake out the cobwebs and make the most of this opportunity to fully test the crew and the ship. We are all looking forward to it."
