Generous sailors serving on HMS Argyll have raised over £6,000 to buy a baby heart monitor for a Plymouth hospital maternity ward.
The Petty Officers Mess on the Type 23 frigate spearheaded the fundraising campaign for their affiliated Argyll Ward at Derriford Hospital.
HMS Argyll raised £6,200 on its six-month Armilla Patrol deployment in the Gulf last year with flight-deck barbeques, camel races and a raffle. The Commanding Officer, Commander John Kingwell donated use of his cabin for one night, for an auction. This privilege attracted very competitive bidding with one group collectively donating £700 to win that auction lot.
For Leading Chef Jon Gardiner, Argyll Ward was a very special cause to support because his daughter Gracie was born there in March 2002 – just seven weeks before he sailed on the Gulf deployment.
