Mr Philip Hedly and Ms Sharon Kemp now privately own the ship which was At present we are in the process of converting the ship to a live aboard. HMS Alert was released by the MoD in 1996 and since then a living room has been added onto the forward deck but little else has been done structurally. When built she was the Loyal Governor, and then when commandeered by the Royal Navy her name changed to HMS Alert. In 1977 she was based in Greenock Scotland and did patrols at Carlingford Lough. 1982/83 reports show she was in Northern Ireland as a Patrol Vessel and based in Belfast going between Belfast and Carlingford Lough. At present as well as doing repairs and taking pictures of her as she is now we are very interested in the history of when she was HMS Alert and would like to hear from anyone who may remember being aboard HMS Alert and the people who served on her. Also we would like any stories and if possible pictures of the ship at the time. Ed.
