Green Goddess Paras RecalledFri, January 10, 2003Source: Ananova NewsMore than 1,000 paras have been removed from the emergency cover teams for fire strikesMore than 1,000 paras have been removed from the emergency cover teams for fire strikes in readiness for possible operations against Iraq. The Ministry of Defence says the 16th Air Assault Brigade, based at Colchester in Essex will revert to normal military training. Their places on the Green Goddess crews will be filled by other troops from lower readiness units. "This change is being undertaken to enable us to maintain a range of options should military action against Iraq become necessary," the MoD said. "It does not in any way signal a decision to undertake such action, which remains neither inevitable nor imminent. "But it does indicate our continued readiness in the event of a further fire strike." |
