The parents of Executive Warrant Officer Allister Woodward, 45, separated when he was a young child. Whilst he grew up with his mother in Plymouth, his father remarried and settled in Scotland. Unbeknown to Allister, his half-sister Miranda, now aged 20, was born. Neither knew of the other's existence until their father spotted mention in Navy News of Allister's appointment in the senior rank of Executive Warrant Officer to HMS Chatham (the unusual spelling of his Christian name caught his eye), and told his daughter, a Wren Writer. She established contact with Allister, but Chatham had to sail for the Gulf before they could meet. However, Miranda was then herself posted to the Gulf to work at the Royal Navy's headquarters there, and the two were finally able to meet for the first time. |
