Row2Recovery Team's First Night On Land

Friday, January 27, 2012

Source: BFBS

After 3,000 miles and almost two months on the high seas, the Row2Recovery team have spent their first night on dry land after completing their challenge.

The six men - four of them injured in action - crossed the finish line yesterday and arrived in Barbados to a huge welcome by locals and their families - arriving at Port St Charles to celebrations and rapturous applause.

After seven weeks with just each other for company, they were delighted to be surrounded once again by supporters, with even Cliff Richard coming along to say congratulations.

But the challenge of rowing all that way - dogged by equipment problems including a broken rudder and a faulty desalination plant - took its toll.

Double amputee Neil says his prosthetic legs won't fit him properly now - all the men lost around three stone each during the voyage.

But they have achieved their goal of raising awareness and funds for those who’ve been injured in action. The next few days will be spent fundraising in Barbados.
