As reported on MoDOracle.com last week, the battalion has three of its four companies deployed and it now has its own combined force location in Nad-e Ali.
Speaking to reporters, 2 Lancs CO Lt Col Robbie Boyd said his troops have the benefit of considerable service in Afghanistan forged over the last two tours.
Soldiers serving with the Theatre Reserve Battalion hold the standby role for 15 months. The 2 Lancs troops have already seen action in Helmand during the last Op Herrick 11 tour.
Lt Col Boyd added: “We have served in Musa Qala, through Sangin, all over Lashkar Gar and now in Nad-e-Ali.
“The fact that we have been all over Helmand province gives all of us a very good general view of the whole situation here and how it has progressed.”
The CO said that security had improved significantly since Herrick 11. He added: “Our first deployments were at the back of Operation Panther’s Claw, which was a much more kinetic time across central Helmand.
“There is no doubt in my soldiers; minds that things have improved since then, even in our area of operations which is still quite robust,” Lt Col Boyd added.
