Soldier Names Baby After Lifesaver

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Source: The Sun Online

The soldier saved by Military Cross heroine Kate Nesbitt has named his baby after her.

Brave Kate, 21, treated Lance Corporal John List's wounds for 45 minutes under heavy fire.

A Taliban bullet had hit him in the face, ruptured his jaw and went through his neck in Afghanistan.

But thanks to Kate he survived to become a dad - and has now called his daughter Madison Kate in honour of only the second British servicewoman to win the MC.

John, 23, of Holsworthy, Devon, said: "When we found my fiancee Emma was pregnant with a girl we knew we had to name her after Kate.

I wouldn't be here if not for her."

Royal Navy Able Seaman Kate was attached as a medic to John's unit 1 Rifles when he was shot last March.

They were reunited at a ceremony in Plymouth, where she met Madison for the first time. Kate said: "I'm overwhelmed and delighted."
