British troops must go to the front of the jobs queue when they return to Civvy Street, MPs have demanded.

A campaign is launched this week to give returning heroes more hope of a job.

New figures show 800 who left last year were without work for at least six months.

The problem will worsen with 30,000 Forces jobs to be axed by 2020.

Shadow defence secretary Jim Murphy has written to firms asking for guarantees veterans will get interviews.

Meanwhile, holiday homeowners have given three years’ worth of empty rooms in just one week to provide breaks for injured troops.

The Give Us Time scheme is the brainchild of ex Defence Secretary Liam Fox who said: “It will help to heal war’s invisible scars.”
