The private security company was founded by Col (Retd) Tim Collins, an experienced soldier and former commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment.
Reports suggest that Mr McGonigle and the two marines died after a Muslim prisoner they had escorted to a prayer room managed to grab an assault rifle and opened fire on his guards in an escape attempt on Saturday.
The prisoner was later shot and killed. The incident remains under investigation.
In a statement to MoDOracle.com, New Century said the thoughts and prayers of its employees were with Mr McGonigle’s family and many friends.
The former Police Service of Northern Ireland officer, who was from County Londonderry, was described by the company as being highly professional.
The New Century statement added “His presence and contribution will be sorely missed by everyone in the company and at the NATO Training Mission
“Ken was a highly professional, deeply competent, well-admired and thoroughly committed colleague who made a material difference through his work.”
