Yes Aerial 99, I do remember the Nevasa ariving in Aden and if you were around the "Crescent" in Steamer it's more than likely I would have run into you. I landed at Steamer on the "Devonshire" myself, they were en route to Singapore with the "Sherwood Foresters"

We replaced the SHERWOOD FORESTERS in Selerang Barracks in Singapore.I think the Devonshire passed us (very close) and there was a lot of "Loving Messages" verbally passed between the two ships.
Great Memories.

I served with REME 57-58 and agree with everthing said it was a stinking awful place and it was a pleasure to go up country or so it seems now and I am another one that looks upon my service in Aden with fondness.

I was filthy and it stank but I have many humourous memories of it, like the time in 1967 when terrible storms broke and the whole place flooded (well it did need a wash) I saw a skeleton float by me which had supposedly been washed out of it's grave with a thick piece of sh*t sticking out of its mouth just like a cigar. I think because the situation was quite desperate you had to develop a sense of humour quite quickly to be able to cope with it.

Unlike the rest of you on here, I did not serve in Aden but my father did. I was there living on Mallah? strait, going to school (for half a day) aon chapehill and khormaksar. We all thought it was a great place, even my mother. I also remember the Nevasa soming in to steamer point, had a visit to HMS Bulwark, HMS Ark Royal, school trips in twin pioneer aircraft instead of a bus!!! Great, although I do agree it turned into a bit of sh*thole when the trouble started.

Hey Jigger, someone in another area was concerned about your recent absence.
And as for "old posts being dragged..., etc, ......" Well, just look at the lost and found sections of many of these sites.... - i.e.- " Looking for my Father......Looking for my Dad....Looking for my Mothers Partner, etc, etc, etc......" It's rife out there, there are so many, many of us....
We ain't dragging stuff, very far from it.....
I'm assuming that's what you were hinting at ??
By the way, the greatest of apologies if I picked your post up wrongly. Just how you came across, tis all.

Hey J,
Thanks.
But what's a "Peep" ?
I have memories of the pool at Sembowang,..... and of the aircraft taxying ( Spelling ? ) away from the Airport in Singers, leaving for the UK, despite my mother trying to stop me looking.
I was 2 1/2 yrs old at the time.
Memories, bonds and committments never ever fade.
So many others come on these sites, hoping and searching for "something".
All I ask, is that no one ever mocks them.

Hey Basso, you're bringing back memories to me of Mombasa as I, with my family spent 2 great weeks there in the 'Manor Park Hotel' right opposite the Cathedral if I remember correctly. This was in Aug.1962 and we flew down to Aden from Bahrain in a Beverley A/C and then with EAS to Mombasa. The return journey to Bahrain took a lot longer as we had to wait in the 'Red Sea Hotel' in Aden for over 10 days for places on an A/C.

Khormaksar,
heading out towards steamer point we were on the left in a bulding called hexham house above a shop called the aden cold store. i think the building next door was called the maktari building.
