Hi All,

Long in the tooth but still here, I was L Mech GT from '65 to '74. Basic training at Hemswell, trade training at Locking, then Stanbridge, Henlow, El Adem, Akrotiri, Mountbatten (Staddon Heights) with detachments from Henlow at Gan, Gutersloh, Medmenham.

Fond memories of all postings, yes even El Adem!

Now retired and living full time on a 67ft Narrowboat cruising the canal system in the UK with wife Chrissy. A very hands on life as maintenance is the key to success on a boat so I am diesel engineer, plumber, gas fitter, joiner, cook, electrical and electronic engineer, painter and husband...

Would love to hear from anyone especially old chums, so bring it on.....
Paul

Welcome mate, hoping you stay & contribute some of your experiences on the canals. If you do so much then what's the missis getting up to then ? Sunbathing, maybe ? Smile Thumbs%20Up

Thanks Beaufighter and Ranroz for the welcome, nice to be seen as a new contributor rather than a "troll" out to cause trouble...

Well Chrissy does washing, ironing, cleaning, polishing (paint and brass), and washing up as I do the cooking!!!! Not a strict segregation of duties as we share most things...Sunbathing in this country usually ends with us going rusty!!

We are in Cropredy at the moment where we have been at the Fairport Cropredy Convention which is a music festival based around Folk/Rock. Status Quo did a session which was awesome....these guys are in their 60's and still note perfect with all their songs....

Ah, correction to my trade......Lmech GC (Q G-tm) which is RAF shorthand for teleprinter mechanic...usually seen swearing at fiendish mechanical devices which refused to work as advertised!! Also seen fiddling with cipher equipment which is why I saw the inside of many rooms without windows and much funny handshaking to get in etc..(passwords)
